The Niota Depot (built 1854) is the oldest standing railroad depot in Tennessee and now serves as Niota’s City Hall and a small museum of local history. This one-story brick structure survived Civil War raids and today retains its original architecture, including the ticket windows and freight room. Visitors can stop in during City Hall hours to see historical photographs, railroad artifacts, and exhibits about Niota’s past on display in the depot’s halls. Local legend notes that the depot was the site of a brief Civil War skirmish and once sheltered the wounded. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Niota Depot is a treasured landmark – a tangible link to the era of steam railroads and the early development of the region. Admission is free during business hours (Mon–Fri).
