Residents and visitors to McMinn County, Tennessee, can enjoy a free concert series throughout November at the historic Gem Theater in Etowah. The concerts run on Friday nights at 7:00 on November 7, 14, and 21. The series is presented by Tennessee Overhill, a tourism organization supporting McMinn, Monroe, and Polk counties.

“We wanted to keep offering live music in the region during what is normally the off-season,” says Adrian Lambert, Director of Tennessee Overhill. “This is the second year we have brought people together through a free concert series.”

The concert is partially funded by the Tennessee Arts Commission. Learn more about this concert series and how to get the most from it.

Three Regional Bands are Traveling to Perform

Some families enjoy the entire Concert Series throughout November, while others plan to attend because of specific bands. Tennessee Overhill has booked three bands that bring unique music offerings to their audiences. Here is this year’s lineup:

Attendees don’t have to worry about planning around the weather, as the concert seating is entirely indoors. The Gem Theater's concession stand will be open, and food trucks will be parked outside. This is a great way to enjoy a fun night out with dinner and a show.

The Off the Rails Concert Series was inspired by the Sounds of Summer Series in Athens. Tennessee continues to be the best state for live music and up-and-coming bands.

The Gem Theater is Worth Visiting Year-Round

The Gem Theater has served McMinn County residents for more than a century. When the building was erected in 1906, it was the largest structure in Etowah at 50 by 75 feet. In 1918, the space was purchased and converted into a theatre. For generations, residents have attended events and concerts at the Gem Theater, and the Etowah Parks and Recreation Department has maintained it. Most recently, the Gem Theater redid its signage, adding a new marquee, bringing a renewed vibrancy to downtown.

Even if you can’t make it to Etowah for the Off the Rails Concert Series, the Gem Theater is worth visiting. Check the schedule to see what’s on stage as you plan your visit to McMinn County.

Come for the Concerts, Stay for the Fall Outlooks

November is an excellent time to visit McMinn County because the fall foliage is still changing. Tennessee doesn’t get as cold as the northern parts of the country, so hiking during this time is still pleasant, and there are beautiful vistas with colorful leaves.

“The weather is nice enough to enjoy the hiking trails without the bugs that are common during the summer months,” says Lambert. “The waterfalls are beautiful during this time. If the leaves fall early, it’s easier to see through the hilly overlooks.”

Beyond the hiking trails, McMinn County offers plenty of things to do in its various communities. From following the Ice Cream Scoop Loop to learning about the rail history in the region, kids and adults alike will enjoy exploring Tennessee’s Overhill Region.

“Each county in our region has enough to offer to keep a visitor occupied for a week,” says Lambert. There’s so much to do that Discover McMinn even made suggested itineraries based on specific interests
