Mayfield Dairy Farms Visitor Center

The Mayfield Dairy Farms Visitor Center in Athens invites visitors to see “behind the scenes” of one of the South’s most beloved dairies​. Guided plant tours show how Mayfield milk and ice cream are made – from the raw milk processing to bottling and packaging – all while sharing the company’s history since 1910​. Tour participants don hairnets and walk along indoor observation corridors above the production lines. After the tour, guests can enjoy a generous scoop of Mayfield’s famous ice cream at the old-fashioned ice cream parlor (each tour ticket comes with a free scoop)​. A gift shop offers Mayfield souvenirs and dairy products to take home. The Visitor Center is typically open Monday–Saturday (closed Wednesdays & Sundays) with a small admission fee for tours​, making it a fun and educational stop halfway between Chattanooga and Knoxville.
