The Arts Center

The Arts Center in Athens is the community’s hub for arts and culture, hosting visual art exhibitions, theatrical performances, concerts, and arts education programs year-round. Located in a renovated historic downtown building, the center houses a gallery space that features rotating exhibits by local and regional artists (with free admission to exhibits) and a 200-seat black box theater used for plays, musical performances, and lectures. The Athens Area Council for the Arts offers a variety of classes and workshops here as well – from painting and pottery for adults to summer art camps for children – fostering creativity across all ages. Popular annual events at The Arts Center include the High School Juried Art Show and the Holiday Trimming of the Tree exhibit. With its mission to enrich the community through the arts, The Arts Center is a lively gathering place where one can enjoy everything from a gallery opening or open-mic night to a staged drama production, all in an intimate and welcoming setting.
